LHS athletes find success at early meets

On Apr. 9 the Lennox High School track and field athletes competed in the Tea Area Invite. Lennox saw several athletes place in the top four.  

Taking home top honors was Tori Gerdes in the 300 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 48.86 in the event. Gerdes also took third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.30. 

Tate Gerdes also earned top honors, placing first in the boys’ high jump after clearing 6’0. Teegan Musser took third in the event, clearing 5’10” and Layton Smith took fourth, clearing 5’8”. In the triple jump, Gerdes took second with a jump of 40’.25”. 

Dani Highum captured first place in the javelin throw, throwing a distance of 1008’4”. Addison Martz took third in the event with a throw of 96’4 and Lilly Meyer captured fourth (94’5”). 

The boys’ 1600 meter sprint medley relay team of Ethan Larson, Jaxon Bittner, Drake Mikkelsen, and Cade Sherard took first place with a time of 3:44.55. 

The boys’ 4x400 meter team of Larson, Mikkelsen, Sherard and Bittner captured first place as well with a time of 3:35.40 in the event.

The boys’ 4x800 meter team of Cloy McVey, Chett Jibben, Noah Sayler, and Sherard claimed first place with a time of 8:31.36. 

Several girls’ relay team captured second place honors. The 1600 meter Sprint medley team captured second with a time of 4:26.97. Team members included Jayla DeCou, Bergan Musser, Karli Bosma, and Kelsey Schmidt. 

Both the boys’ and girls’ 4x200 meter relay teams took second place. The boys’ team, consisting of Larson, Bittner, Gerdes, and Mikkelsen, clocked a time of 1:35.17. The girls’ team consisting Gerdes, Musser, Bosma, and DeCou took second with a time of 1:49.95. 

The girls’ 4x400 meter relay team of DeCou, Musser, Gerdes, and Bosma finished with a time of 4:09.29 to take third. 

Other top four performances included a second place finish by Joey Boysen who clocked a personal best, 17.64 in the  boys’ 110 meter hurdles. 

Sayler took third in the boys’ 400 meter hurdles with a personal best 53.91 seconds. In the boys’ 1600. Meter run, McVey finished in second with a time of 4:46.17. 

In the girls’ 1600 meter run, Kelsey Schmidt set a personal best with a time of 5:23.75 to take third. 

Adie McVey took third in the girls’ 3200 meter run with a time of 12:19.58. In the girls’ 800 meter run, Kensi Bosma took fourth with a time of 2:38.74. 

In the girls’ high jump, Highum took fourth, clearing 4’10”. Holly Gillick placed fifth, clearing 4’10”. 

In the boys’ long jump, Musser took fourth, jumping 18’9.75”. 

In the girls’ long jump, Musser took third with a jump of 15’11”. 

In the boys’ shot put, Emory Lefers threw a distance of 45’7”, a personal best, to captured third place. 

On Apr. 11 the LHS track and field athletes hosted their first meet of the season. Once again the team saw many top performances and even a new meet record.

In the girls’ 200 meter dash, Musser set a new meet record with a time of 25.51. Mussser also captured first in the girls’ 100 meter dash with a time of 12.58. Musser also captured first place in the long jump, jumping a distance of 16’4.5”. 

DeCou also performed strong in the girls’ sprint events, taking second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.04 and third in the 100 with a time 13.08. 

Gerdes claimed first place once again in the 300 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 49.64. She captured second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.90.

In the girls’ 800 meter run, Schmidt took first place with a time of 2:29.09. Bosma took second in the event with a time of 2:30.56 and McVey third with a time of 2:34.44. 

In the boys’ high jump, Gerdes captured first place again, clearing 6’. Musser took second, clearing 5’10” and Smith 5’8”. Gerdes also took first place in the triple jump, jumping a distance of 39’2”. 

In the girls’ javelin throw, Martz took first place with a throw of 97’3”. Ryan Hanssen took third with a throw of 86’8”. 

In the boys’ long jump, Bittner took first place honors with a jump of 20’8.5”. Musser jumped 20’2.5” to take second and Gerdes took sixth, jumping 10’5”. 

The boys’ 1600 meter sprint medley relay of Mikkelsen, Bittner, Musser and McVey took first with a time of 3:52.52. The boys’ 4x400 meter relay team of Larson, Sherard, McVey, and Mikkelsen finished with a time of 3:34.73. 

The girls’ 4x100 meter relay team of Gerdes, Musser, Adelynn Timmermans, and DeCou took first place with a time of 52.75. 

The girls’ 4x800 meter relay team of Schmidt, Kenzie Bosma, Karli Bosma, and McVey took first with a time of 10:20. 

Second place honors went to the girls’ 1600 meter sprint medley team of Timmermans, Jaelyn Kroese, Layci Eli, and Bosma with a time of 4:58.03. 

The girls’ 4x400 meter relay team of Schmidt, Josephine Plucker, McVey, and Bosma took second with a time of 4:28.59. 

In the boys’ 200 meter dash, Larson set a new personal record with a time of 23.45 to capture second place in the event. 

In the boys’ 300 meter hurdles, Boysen took third with a new personal best time of 44.90. Wyatt Bult finished fifth with a time of 46.38. 

In the boys’ 400 meter dash, Mikkelsen claimed third place honors with a time of 52.36. Sherard captured fourth with a time of 53.05. 

Sherard took second in the boys’ 800 meter run with a time of 2:06.88 in the event. Sayler took third with a time of 2:09.88 and Jibben fourth with a time of 2:13.61. 

In the boys’ 1600 meter run, McVey took second place with a time of 4:43.60. Sayler took fifth with a time of 4:48.80. 

In the girls’ discus throw, Martz took second place honors with a throw of 110’3”. 

In the boys’ shot put, E. Lefers took third throwing a distance of 46’3.5”. 

In the girls’ shot put, Mia Hanisch throw a distance of 32’.5” to take third place. Martz threw 31’6” to take fourth. 

In the girls’ high jump, Gillick took fourth, clearing 4’8”. Hanssen took fifth, clearing 4’8” and Kroese sixth, clearing 4’6”. 

The LHS track and field team was to compete in Tea on Thursday, Apr. 18 and will compete at Dakota Valley on Tuesday, Apr. 23 and will be at Canton on Thursday, Apr. 25. The team will host another meet on Tuesday, Apr. 30.
