Mason McCormick, SDSU standout and Pittsburgh Steeler lineman (pictured abvoe), made a special appearance at the Football Fanatics Camp in Lennox last week.
McCormick, an offensive lineman from South Dakota State University, was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 119th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He is the son of Kibbi and Lee McCormick of Sioux Falls. Lee was a graduate of Lennox High School and the son of Leo McCormick.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 309 pounds, the 24-year-old McCormick has the size and agility needed to excel in the NFL. At the NFL Scouting Combine, he showcased his athleticism with a 5.08-second 40-yard dash, a 4.45-second short shuttle, and a 7.59-second 3-cone drill, ranking among the best in his position.
Steelers offensive line coach, Pat Meyer takes about McCormick’s toughness and how he plays football the right way.
A native of Sioux Falls, SD, McCormick attended Roosevelt High School, excelling in both football and track and field, and earning first-team all-state honors as a senior. He helped his high school football team reach the state championship and was selected for the Argus-Leader Elite 45.
McCormick committed to South Dakota State University, where he red-shirted his true freshman year in 2018. He played in the final 12 games of the following season, starting two. In the spring 2021 season, postponed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, McCormick started all 10 games, helping the team reach the national championship and earning all-conference and All-America honors. He continued to shine, starting all 15 games in the fall 2021 season and earning his second second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) honor and All-American recognition.
In the 2022 season, McCormick started all 15 games, earning first-team All-MVFC and consensus All-American honors while leading South Dakota State to their first national championship. He was named offensive lineman of the week six times and received the Adam Timmerman Award as co-offensive MVP. Returning for a final season in 2023, he helped the team repeat as national champions, starting all 15 games and earning first-team All-MVFC and first-team All-American honors. McCormick finished his collegiate career with 57 consecutive starts and received invitations to the East-West Shrine Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine.
McCormick will head to the Steelers’ training camp on July 24.
