Lennox sweeps Boys, Girls State Powerlifting Titles: Seven individual titles highlight Lennox’s dominant day at State

On Saturday, Mar. 7, the Lennox Powerlifting team competed against 255 of the states strongest high schoolers at the State Powerlifting Meet in Baltic. The boys team compiled 57 points followed by Sioux Falls Christian second, and Hamlin third.  On the girls side, Lennox scored 54 team points, followed by Canton second, and Baltic third.

On the day, the Lennox boys took home four individual state titles. In the 148lb class, Jayden Hopf took home first place with a 960 pound total.  Shayden Olean won the 181lb class with a total of 1145 pounds.  Gavin Horner claimed the 242lb title by lifting 1375 total pounds, and Leif Karlson lifted 1370 pounds to win the 275lb division.  

The Lennox girls claimed three individual titles with Sydney Johnson winning her class with a total of 635 pounds.  Maggie Jacobson totaled 675 pound to win her weight class.

Abbie Wildeboer capped off her outstanding high school career by winning the 154lb state title with a record total of 695 pounds. She also set the Class A State records with a bench press of 140 pounds, and a 305 pound deadlift.  

Bringing home runner up titles for the boys were Sully Weeldreyer at 114lbs, and Ethan Eitrem at 132lbs. Third place winners in their classes were Gabe Veurink, Davin Cwach, and Quinten Lunt.  

Jacob Capon, Logan VonHaden, David Bartscher, and Tim Schuttlofel all took home fourth place honors.  Claiming fifth place medals were Lukias Johnson and Kodi Scott.

For the girls, Maddyn Hossel totaled 500 pounds to tie for the top total in her division, but was awarded second due to a tie breaker. Kenna Schilling and Bristal Barbee also earned state runner up finishes.  Finishing out the placing for the girls with third place finishes were Hailey Forrest and Sierra Wesseling.

“The coaches are so proud of each athlete that competed on Saturday. To take home both the girls and boys team championships is a real testament to all of the hard work and effort put in by everyone,” said Scott Meyer. “It was an amazing day.  Lennox Powerlifting would like to thank all of the parents and fans who have support our team, not only on Saturday, but throughout the entire season.”
