Lennox suffers defeat against Madison

The Lennox High School football team hosted Madison on Friday, October 6, and were unable to get things going, suffering the 14-8 loss.

Madison lit up the scoreboard early, with Andrew Comes making an 18-yard touchdown pass from Cohen Hahn, followed by a successful extra point by Thomas Mechels. This quick touchdown put Madison ahead 7-0. Madison continued to dominate as Hahn completed a 67-yard pass, securing another touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

Lennox managed to find their rhythm and responded with a touchdown of their own. Boston Katzer connected with Porter Ihnen for a 39-yard pass, and Tate Gerdes successfully ran for a two-point conversion, putting Lennox on the scoreboard at 14-8. But neither team found the end zone in the second half, resulting in a Madison victory.

In the air for Lennox, Katzer completed 23 out of 42 attempts for a total of 215 yards. He also managed to secure one touchdown pass but had one interception.

On the ground, Gerdes led Lennox with 17 carries for 63 yards.

In the receiving department, Ihnen had seven receptions for 78 yards, including one touchdown. Drake Mikkelsen contributed with two receptions for 46 yards, and Chase Faulds recorded four receptions for 31 yards. Gerdes added three receptions for 25 yards.

Defensively, Ethan Larson lead the team the tackles with six tackles. Carson Benning contributed five tackles, Journey Noisy Hawk-Ellis had four, Jevyn Lefers and Lucas Bontje each had three. Emory Lefers recorded a sack in the game.

The Orioles will host West Central this Friday, Oct. 13 in a 7 p.m. match-up. West Central holds a 6-1 record, recording their first loss this past Friday to Winner (28-0). The team has earned wins over Custer (50-13), Sioux Falls Christian (14-6), Madison (35-7), Vermillion (41-7), Canton (32-28), and Tri-Valley (20-6).
