Lennox Speech and Debate takes third at State

This past weekend Lennox Speech and Debate team competed at the State Tournament in Aberdeen. The team finished with several strong showings and took home a third-place finish behind Sturgis and Spearfish. In public forum, the teams of Emersen Lee and Maddigan Van Sickle, and the team of Madix Oltmanns and Noah Sitter finished as quarterfinalists.
In speech events, Gavin Swier and Maddigan Van Sickle were just out of finals in informative speaking placing eighth and seventh respectively. In international extemporaneous speaking Emersen Lee placed sixth. Noah Sitter finished in fifth place and Madix Oltmanns finished in second place in domestic extemporaneous speaking.
Coach Larson stated, “This was a complete team performance. I am very proud of each student that competed this weekend. Each student from our more veteran performers to our first year competitors made the team award possible.”
Ainsley Calhoon competed in international extemp, Zach Boysen and Darek Krohn competed in Lincoln-Douglas, and Gavin Swier added valuable points in original oratory.
The team will be at Brandon Valley next Friday as students compete at the National Qualifier for Student Congress and Big Question debate. Emersen Lee will be representing the team at the National Tournament this summer in Richmond Virginia.
