The Lennox Post 174 Senior Legion baseball team bounced back in impressive fashion Friday, June 19, splitting a doubleheader with Harrisburg Legion Gold. Lennox dropped the opener 9-0 before responding with a 14-4 victory in the second game.

In the first game, Lennox was unable to capitalize on several early scoring opportunities in the first game.

Harrisburg struck first in the bottom of the opening inning taking a1-0 lead.

Post 174 threatened in the second inning after walks to Mason Reischl and Justin Butler, but Harrisburg escaped the jam with a double play and a strikeout.

The Gold extended their advantage to 3-0 in the second inning, scoring two runs on a Lennox error. Harrisburg added three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run home run, to take a 6-0 lead.

Harrisburg added two runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth.

Lennox managed just one hit in the contest, a fifth-inning single by Cole Spieler. Talen Eich, Jackson Anacker, Mason Reischl, Justin Butler, Nate Haar and Griffen Boomgarden all drew walks for Post 174.

Reischl started on the mound for Lennox, striking out five over four innings. Logan Von Haden pitched the final two innings and recorded two strikeouts.

The second game was a completely different story as Lennox erased an early four-run deficit and exploded offensively to secure the 14-4 victory.

Harrisburg took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, scoring four runs on three hits.

Post 174 answered in the third when Eich launched a solo home run to left field. Lennox added two more runs in the inning on RBI doubles by Griffen Boomgarden and Logan Von Haden to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Lennox took control in the fourth. After Jackson Anacker walked and Eich tripled to tie the game, Mason Reischl followed with an RBI single. Boomgarden and Von Haden each added RBI hits as Post 174 scored four runs in the frame to move ahead 7-4.

The lead continued to grow in the fifth inning. Anacker walked and Eich doubled before a sacrifice fly from Reischl brought home a run. An error on the play allowed Eich to score as well, pushing the Lennox advantage to 9-4.

Post 174 put the game away with a five-run sixth inning. Anacker’s bunt single, a run-scoring single from Spieler, a bases-loaded walk to Von Haden and an aggressive steal of home by Spieler highlighted the outburst.

Eich led the Lennox offense, going 5-for-4 with a home run, triple, double, three RBIs and four runs scored. Anacker reached base four times, scored four runs and added an RBI. Von Haden collected three RBIs, while Boomgarden drove in two runs and added a double. Spieler finished with two hits and an RBI, while Reischl and Haar each contributed a hit.

Cole Spieler earned the win on the mound, striking out nine batters while allowing four runs. After Harrisburg scored four times in the second inning, Spieler settled in and did not allow another run the rest of the game.

With the split, Lennox moved on to prepare for a busy day at home this Saturday.

Post 174 will host Garretson Post 23 on Saturday, June 27, with games scheduled for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Between the two contests, the inaugural class of the Lennox Legion Baseball Hall of Fame will be inducted.
