Lennox Senior Legion competes in WCBA Legion Invite

Lennox Post 174 Senior Legion baseball team pulled off a comeback victory over Humboldt-Hartford on the opening day of the WCBA Legion Invitational held Friday afternoon, June 23.

Lennox stole the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs, to get the 7-5 victory.

Andrew Daugherty grounded into a fielder’s choice but scored Porter Ihnen in the top of the seventh to tie things up at 4 all. Isaac Bambas hit a ground ball and was able to reach first on an error by Humboldt-Hartford. Bambas’ hit scored Ethan Larson and advanced Sawyer Bowers to third and Daugherty to second. Ashton Bach then hit a ground ball and reached base due to another error. This hit scored Bowers and Daugherty to put Lennox up 7-4. Humboldt-Hartford managed one run in the bottom of the inning but it wasn’t enough as Lennox emerged victorious.

Braxton Musser earned the victory on the mound for Post 174. Musser surrendered three runs on four hits over five and a third innings, striking out three. Bambas started the game for Lennox. He lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one.

Bambas went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Lennox. Also recording a hit in the game for Post 174 was Conner Eich, Triston Butler, and Dayne Moeller.

Play continued in the WCBA Legion Invitational Tournament with Lennox taking on Tabor Friday evening.

Lennox led 4-3 after four innings of play but watched as Tabor scored one run in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth to take the 6-4 victory.

Lennox suffered the lost despite out-hitting Tabor 9 to 7.

Post 174 tallied three runs in the fourth inning thanks to a single by Daugherty and a double by Bowers.

C. Eich took the loss for Lennox on the mound. He surrendered six runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one.

Bach, Daugherty, and C. Eich all had multiple hits for Post 174.

Tournament play continued on Saturday, June 24 as the Lennox Legion team took on Volga Legion Post 114.

A walk-off single propelled Lennox to a decisive, dramatic victory over Volga, 6-5. The game was tied at five with Lennox batting in the bottom of the eighth when Sawyer Bowers singled on a 1-1 count, scoring Bach and winning the game for Post 174.

Lennox knotted the game up at five in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring two runs when Talen Eich doubled.

Mason Reischl led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Post 174. He allowed six hits and three runs over four innings, striking out six.

Caleb Wipf also pitched in the game, allowing three hits, two runs over four innings. He recorded eight strike-outs.

Butler hit a home run in the second inning for Lennox.

Bowers, Butler, Bach, and Musser all managed multiple hits for Lennox. Butler and Bowers led the way with three hits each. C. Eich led Lennox with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 11 stolen bases in the game.

In semifinal action on Sunday, June 25 Lennox took on Tabor Post 183 once again. Lennox watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 5-1 loss.

Bambas led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Lennox. The righthander went five and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on ten hits and striking out seven. Ihnen threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Bambas led Lennox with two hits in three at bats.

Dell Rapids Phils Post 65 won the WCBA Legion Invite, with an 8-4 win over Tabor Post 183 in the Championship game.

Lennox was scheduled to compete against Tea at home on Wednesday, June 28 and will compete in the Clark Tournament on July 6.

The Sr. Legion will be at Elk Point on July 12 and will be at Vermillion on July 13. Region action is set to begin July 16 in Elk Point. The State Senior Legion will be played at Redfield on July 28-31.
