The Lennox School District is preparing to welcome students back for the 2026-27 school year, with classes beginning Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Several back-to-school events are scheduled in the days leading up to the first day. Lennox Junior High and High School will host an open house Monday, Aug. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Lennox Elementary School and LWC Intermediate School will hold parent-teacher conferences Friday, Aug. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon and Monday, Aug. 24, from 1 to 4 p.m. Families were emailed a SignUpGenius link to schedule their conference times.
In addition to the start-of-school activities, Superintendent Adam Shaw has announced updated morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures for Lennox Elementary and LWC Intermediate schools.
The new procedures were developed in collaboration with local law enforcement and city leaders with the goal of improving traffic flow and student safety.
During designated school traffic times, the roadway between the crosswalks will be closed to vehicle traffic. Morning drop-off will take place from 7:50 to 8:20 a.m., while afternoon pick-up will be from 3:20 to 3:40 p.m.
The district is asking families to follow the designated traffic patterns during these times.
Lennox Elementary School — West End
Students attending Lennox Elementary may be dropped off on the north side of the elementary school in the designated drop-off zone.
Families should:
• Enter W. 5th Avenue from S. Elm Street and proceed east.
• Drop students off in the designated drop-off zone.
• Continue east to S. Cedar Street.
• Turn left, or north, onto S. Cedar Street and continue on their way.
Elementary & LWC Intermediate — East End
Students attending either Lennox Elementary or LWC Intermediate can also be dropped off in the east parking lot.
Parents should park in a designated parking space and make sure their child safely reaches the sidewalk. Once on the sidewalk, students can proceed to the crosswalk area or enter the elementary school.
Families should enter the shared parking lot by El Mariachi from S. Main Street and continue into the school parking lot near the gymnasium. After drop-off, vehicles should exit north from the parking lot and turn right onto W. 5th Avenue.
LWC Intermediate School
Students attending LWC Intermediate can be dropped off on the south side of the Intermediate School in the designated drop-off zone.
Families should:
• Enter from S. Main Street (and proceed west on 5th Avenue.)
• Drop students off in the designated zone.
• Turn left and continue through the loop in front of the Lennox Elementary Gym.
• Exit the loop onto 5th Avenue and head east toward S. Main Street.
Families with both an elementary and intermediate student may use one of the drop-off locations for both children to save time.
Crosswalk roadway closure
One of the most significant changes this school year will be the closure of the roadway between the crosswalks during morning and afternoon traffic periods.
The roadway will be closed from 7:50 to 8:20 a.m. and 3:20 to 3:40 p.m. The district said the change is intended to reduce congestion, minimize conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians and create a safer environment for students entering and leaving the buildings.
Shaw acknowledged that the new procedures may take some time for families to become accustomed to.
“We understand that any change in routine requires an adjustment period,” Shaw said in his letter to families. “We ask for your patience and cooperation during the first few weeks of school as everyone becomes accustomed to the new traffic flow.”
The district is encouraging parents and guardians to follow the designated routes and traffic procedures as the school year begins.
“The safety of our students is our highest priority, and we believe these changes will have a significant and positive impact,” Shaw stated.
Families with questions about the new procedures are encouraged to contact their child’s school or the Lennox School District Office.
