Lennox School District officials cut the ribbon on the new performing arts center at the high school before the start of the junior high and high school band and choir concert on Dec. 15.
While the ribbon cutting took place in mid-December, the school musical had the honor of being the first performance in the new PAC on Nov. 21. Superintendent Adam Shaw said they officially finished construction on the PAC the Wednesday before the musical.
“I’m glad we got it done. There were some issues right at the end that we were trying to figure out, but got it done and here we are,” he said.
The musical students were able to practice on the stage about 2-3 weeks before the PAC was finished as the workers continued to install carpet and seats.
“The musical was phenomenal. The kids did such a good job. It was a great opening piece for the PAC,” Shaw said.
The PAC was the final piece to be finished as part of the high school expansion project that was approved through a bond approved by taxpayers. The auxiliary gym, weight room and concession stand were ready by the start of the school year.
The PAC took a couple of months longer to finish just because the construction has to be done in a certain order.
Backstage they have dressing rooms and a garage door set up for unloading props. The PAC features 827 seats.
So far, the PAC has been used for concerts and the musical. In the future, it could be used for one-act plays, teacher in-service and assemblies.
“I think it was done really well. I’m pleased with how it’s turned out. For what we need, this is perfect for us,” Shaw said. “Thanks to the taxpayers for approving this. Without their votes, we don’t have these things.”
