Lennox’s Old Fashioned 4th of July plans underway

Lennox City Council tentatively approved the Special Permit for the Lennox Commercial Club’s annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July weekend events during their most recent Council meeting on May 26.

Lennox Commercial Club met with City Administrator Nathan Vander Plaats, Mayor Tracy West and Councilman Sam Bowers on Monday to discuss some of the logistics.

The Street Dance on July 3rd will feature the band Dirty Word and take place on the north end of Main Street as usual from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Social distancing will be encouraged. The cruise night will take place that same evening. Parking will not be allowed on Main Street this year to allow for better traffic flow. More details will be released in a future issue.

The Fourth of July events will include a parade at 10:30 a.m., no candy or favors will be allowed to be thrown from moving vehicles.

There will be no parking on the parade route, including Main Street. A shuttle from the high school parking lot will try to be arranged.

The arts in the park, Little Miss Contest, Kiddy Tractor Pedal Pull, Car Show and Fireworks are all being planned to take place.

The Firecracker Road Race, sponsored by the Lions Club and Lennox Area Community Fund has been canceled this year due to concerns of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Other cancellations from non-Commercial Club sponsored events include the Quilt Show and the Legion Baseball Game.

Watch future issues of this newspaper for more details on events.
