Lennox Powerlifting had 18 Junior High and seven High School athletes participate in the Yankton Powerlifting Competition last Saturday, Feb. 24.

The High School group gained more platform experience; many got their second competition under their belts.

The Lennox Junior High athletes got their first taste of the competition platform last Saturday.

“I’m excited about what the future holds,” said coach Jona Leo. “The excitement of the Junior High crew is contagious, and we coaches have the privilege of being part of it. It is rewarding to see the kids’ technique and strength improve while watching them grow in self-confidence. I’m excited to see this transition to other sports.”

The biggest current issue isn’t growing the program that already has 48 lifters but finding space to accommodate the large team.

“We are blessed that our community supported the bond issue last spring, as a more extensive and spacious training facility is much needed to alleviate this problem,” added Leo.

On March 16th, the team will participate in the South Dakota High School State Championships at Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls.

“Last year, we had a team anchored down by Seniors Cody Peterson, Krimzon Summers, Gabe Beaman, Austin Richter, Landon Slack, Carter Stroschein, Tarles Antoine, and Caden Iken,” said Leo. “I truly feel Mother Nature, which caused the 2023 State Competition to cancel, robbed us of our first State Championship. However, we’ve reloaded with talent and are again contenders this year.”
