Lennox American Legion Post #174 made a donation to the South Dakota State Veterans Cemetery Endowment Fund last month.
The local Legion Post hosted a meeting for area Veterans to learn more about the State Veterans Cemetery that is located in Minnehaha County. The event was well attended at the Lennox Legion.
Presenting information was Terry Paulsen, Government Relations and Legislative Director; Rick Kiley, of the Sioux Falls City Council; Aaron Pollard, Deputy Secretary of the SD Veterans Affairs; and Erin Brown, the Director of the SD Veterans Cemetery.
The meeting consisted of a slide show presentation and video from day 1 through present. The project began in 2015 with Kiley and Paulsen locating and obtaining land for the cemetery. They then went to the South Dakota Legislature for approval and funding assistance.
Paulsen then indicated that Veteran’s Organizations needed to assist with funding. Donations are still being accepted to reach the endowment total of six million dollars. Anyone who wants to do so can go to SD Veterans Cemetery online and you will find information as to where to send your donation.
