The Lennox Brethorst-Burma American Legion Post 174 will hold its inaugural Legion Baseball Hall of Fame Induction ceremony this Saturday, June 27, honoring the men and teams who helped build and sustain the program for generations.

The ceremony will take place between games of the Lennox Legion doubleheader, with the first game scheduled for 3 p.m. If inclement weather occurs, the induction will be moved to the Legion Hall. Legion members, families and the general public are encouraged to attend. This year’s first class of inductees includes Mike Poppens, Earl Van Ningen, Larry Bendt, Arlin Rops, John Kirchner and the 1953 Lennox Legion Baseball Team. Each honoree is being recognized for decades of leadership, volunteer service and dedication to Legion baseball in the Lennox community.

Together, the inductees represent more than a century of combined service to the program, helping establish Lennox Legion Baseball as one of the state’s most respected small-town traditions. From championship teams to long-time coaches, athletic officers and volunteers, their impact continues to be felt on and off the field.

Organizers note the Hall of Fame was created to ensure the history of the program and the contributions of its earliest builders are preserved for future generations.

“This is about making sure these men and teams are remembered for what they did to keep Legion baseball alive here,” organizers said. “Their impact is still being felt today.”
