Lennox High School cross country teams to compete at State this Saturday

The Lennox High School cross country program had a day to remember on Friday, Oct. 17, as both the boys’ and girls’ varsity teams captured Region 3A Championships, earning their entire squads a trip to the State Meet this Saturday, Oct. 25, in Huron.

The LHS varsity girls were once again led by freshman standout Adie McVey, who crossed the line in second place with a time of 18:58.31. Eighth-grader Sophia Johnson followed with an impressive personal record of 20:16.66 to take fourth. Rounding out Lennox’s top five were Lucy Carlson (14th, 20:56.28), Kamille Schmidt (24th, 21:59.48), and Kensi Holland (26th, 22:19.13, PR). Allison Loewe also competed, taking 32nd (23:06.35). 

Their strong performances secured the Region 3A team title and solidified their spot among the state’s top contenders heading into the Class A Girls race in Huron.

The Lennox boys’ team also earned the Region title with a strong group effort. Sophomore Isaak Booker led the way, finishing fourth in 17:18.47, followed closely by fellow sophomore Leo Aesoph (8th, 17:40.66) and senior Cloy McVey (9th, 17:48.50). Freshman Landon Strasser added valuable points, placing 15th in 18:14.58, while sophomore Jackson Schmidt rounded out the top five at 19:18.51 for 22nd. Charley Bittner took 37th (20:58.96).

With five runners inside the top 25, the Orioles claimed the Region 3A title and punched their ticket to the State Meet as a full team.

The junior varsity girls also turned in an excellent showing, led by sophomore Kaydence Gerry, who finished fifth in 18:48.73. Eighth-grader Sophie Wood followed in 10th (20:05.95), while Harper Walsh (15th, 20:35.68), Adalynn Nielson (17th, 20:44.59), and Lily Kuiken (21st, 21:08.40, PR) all added strong performances on the day.

The JV boys posted impressive depth, led by junior Isaiah Sayler’s fourth-place finish in 15:44.79. The Aasheim brothers, Cade (9th, 16:37.04) and Lance (10th, 16:51.52), added top-10 results. Freshmen Quinten Lunt (20th, 17:28.99) and seventh-grader Gage Ebbeson (28th, 18:03.80, PR) rounded out the scoring runners. Seniors Karson Iken (18:34.02, PR), Duncan Johnson (19:30.13), Sawyer Johnson (19:32.24), and Cade DeWolf (19:40.40) also contributed to the team’s success. 

The Class A State Meet will be held at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron. The Class A Boys race begins at 12:00 p.m., followed by the Class A Girls at 1:30 p.m. Medals will be awarded to the top 25 individuals in each class, along with team trophies for the champions and runners-up, and plaques for the third through sixth-place teams.

All classes will compete at Huron. The following is the complete schedule: Class A Boys — 12:00 Noon; Class AA Boys — 12:30 p.m.; Class B Boys — 1:00 p.m.; Class A Girls — 1:30 p.m.; Class AA Girls — 2:00 p.m.; Class B Girls — 2:30 p.m. 

Awards will follow the final race.
