Lennox girls soccer earns second win with dominate 8-1 victory over Vermillion

The Lennox High School girls soccer team picked up its second win of the season Thursday, Aug. 27, rolling past Vermillion 8-1.

The Orioles controlled much of the game, with a strong defensive effort. 

“Our defensive back line and defensive midfielders were solid and kept the ball in our attacking end,” head coach Paul McVey said. “This allowed our playmakers to connect and create some impressive goals.”

Adie McVey led the Orioles’ offensive attack with four goals, while Tori Gerdes added three and Bergan Musser scoring the other Lennox goal.

Nora Alustiza Roitegui, Haven Larson and Adie McVey each recorded an assist in the victory.

McVey said the Orioles have continued to improve their ability to use the entire field offensively.

“We are starting to figure out how to play the ball out wide and attack from the flanks, which gives us openings in the middle,” he said.

The team is also becoming more comfortable with its individual roles and responsibilities on the field.

“Most importantly, we are having a lot of fun out there and the girls are getting more and more locked in by understanding their roles and positional responsibilities,” McVey said.

The victory gives Lennox some momentum as the Orioles move into the heart of their schedule.

The Orioles will host Garrison this Thursday, Sept. 3 with varsity beginning at 7 p.m. They travel to Groton on Sept. 15 and will be home again on Sept. 17 taking on Dakota Valley.
