Lennox area lumber business to expand in new location

“Lennox is my home, and I’m excited to have my business located in city limits. Roughly twenty percent of our sales go right back to Lennox, so I think it's only right to give back and contribute to the sales and property tax base of the community.”

Southeast South Dakota (SESD) Rough Sawn Lumber, a Lennox area business specializing in providing custom milling services and lumber to contractors and woodworking enthusiasts, has announced they will be opening a new showroom and mill within Lennox city limits at the corner of South Dakota Highway 44 off the Worthing I-29 Exit. The new facilities will total 13,500 square feet, nearly tripling the size of the business’s existing spaces north of Lennox. A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of the new project will be held on July 10th.

“I’m super excited to get things up and running at the new location,” said Chris DeHaan, the owner and operator of SESD Rough Sawn Lumber. “Right now, our mill and our showroom are in different facilities several miles apart. Having them on the same site will be a big convenience for us, for our suppliers, and for our customers.”

DeHaan opened the business in 2016 and has quickly developed a loyal customer base with an inventory of over twenty-five exotic woods and excellent customer service. Rough Sawn Lumber routinely has customers who drive three to four hours to view its selection. With the new location, DeHaan hopes to expand these great offerings.

“We will still have the custom milling and exotic woods, that is what we are known for,” he said. “But we will also be adding a lumberyard where folks can buy lumber and some other building materials for construction and home improvement projects. With all the housing and commercial growth in the region, we think that there’s a need there that we can serve.”

Rough Sawn Lumber’s planned move comes after a year-long search for a suitable location. Working with the City of Lennox, the Lennox Area Development Corporation, and an investor, DeHaan was able to secure a nearly fourteen-acre site for his project. In addition to Rough Sawn Lumber, the site will be available for sale to other commercial and light industrial businesses looking to locate in the growing community.

“Lennox is my home, and I’m excited to have my business located in city limits. Roughly twenty percent of our sales go right back to Lennox, so I think its only right to give back and contribute to the sales and property tax base of the community. This development is going to be a great boost to the local economy.

Rough Sawn Lumber plans to open the new location in late October. More information about the business can be found on their website, sesdroughsawnlumber.com, or by visiting their Facebook page.

The Lennox Area Development Corporation and the City of Lennox will be hosting the groundbreaking ceremony for SESD Rough Sawn Lumber at 27980 SD Highway 17, Lennox, SD on Monday, July 10th at 5:00pm. All are invited to celebrate this investment in the community.
