Groundbreaking held for SE SD Rough Sawn Lumber

A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held Monday, July 10 for Southeast South Dakota (SE SD) Rough Sawn Lumber, a Lennox area business specializing in providing custom milling services and lumber to contractors and woodworking enthusiasts.

The Groundbreaking featured a welcome by Ryan Solberg, Economic Development Manager for the Lennox Area Development Corporation and remarks from City of Lennox Mayor Stacy Duchene; President of the Lennox Area Development Corporation, Sharese Ihnen; Settler Development LLC representative, Paul Johnson, DDS; and SE SD Rough Sawn Lumber owner, Chris DeHaan.

The new showroom and mill will be built within Lennox city limits at the corner of South Dakota Highway 44 off the Worthing I-29 Exit.

The new facilities will total 13,500 square feet, nearly tripling the size of the business’s existing spaces north of Lennox.

DeHaan opened the business in 2016 and has quickly developed a loyal customer base with an inventory of over twenty-five exotic woods and excellent customer service. Rough Sawn Lumber routinely has customers who drive three to four hours to view its selection. With the new location, DeHaan hopes to expand these great offerings.

Rough Sawn Lumber’s planned move comes after a year-long search for a suitable location. Working with the City of Lennox, the Lennox Area Development Corporation, and an investor, DeHaan was able to secure a nearly fourteen-acre site for his project. In addition to Rough Sawn Lumber, the site will be available for sale to other commercial and light industrial businesses looking to locate in the growing community.

Rough Sawn Lumber plans to open the new location in late October. More information about the business can be found on their website, sesdroughsawnlumber.com, or by visiting their Facebook page.
