Grant Buhta selected to All-State Band

Rapid City welcomed some of South Dakota’s most talented young musicians Saturday, March 28, for the 75th Annual South Dakota All-State Band, a prestigious event that brings together outstanding student performers from across the state. Representing Lennox was Grant Buhta.

The All-State Band audition includes a long preparation process culminating in a live audition that includes knowing all 12 major and minor scales, preparing a solo and etude, memorizing a chromatic scale, and playing sight reading excerpts that the students have never seen before. 

“Grant worked on the audition materials from the beginning of summer through the fall semester and auditioned in January where he did well enough to make it in,” said LHS band director, Tyler Youngquist. “We are so proud of the hard work and perseverance Grant put forth over the last several months.”
