Four Orioles punch ticket to State: Langbehn, Williams, Fischer, and Halouska all qualify at Regions

On Friday, Feb. 18 the Lennox High School wrestling team competed in the Region 2A Wrestling Tournament held at Brandon Valley. At stake was a trip to the 2022 State A Tournament.

Four Orioles found their way in the top four to claim their spot at State — Jase Langbehn, Ramsey Williams, Alexis Fischer, and Stephanie Halouska.

Jase Langbehn, competing at 195 pounds, earned third place winning by decision 3-2 over Beresford/Alcester-Hudson’s Landon Schurch. Langbehn had won by major decision 9-1 over Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Kishmar Eberline in the consolation semi-finals to reach the third/fourth place match. Langbehn began Regions with a pin over Yankton’s Vaden Griel in 55 seconds before losing to Harrisburg’s Jack Detert by decision, 7-3, in the semifinals — sending him into the consolation bracket.

“I am very proud of our whole team effort over the weekend. We showed some major growth as team and competed in all the matches. Jase Langbehn was able to come away with the third place finish. He looked tough and was ten seconds away from being in the finals,” said Oriole head coach Blake Crosby.

Joining Langbehn at State will be Ramsey Williams who earned fourth place at 113 pounds. Williams began Regions with a loss by decision, 7-2, to Harrisburg’s Emory Johnson. Williams, in the consolation bracket, received a bye before pinning Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Turner Gordon in 3:36 to advance to the third/fourth place match.

Williams had a re-match against Johnson, and suffered the fall in 3:57, however the fourth place finish still guaranteed his spot at State.

“Ramsey Williams might have been in the toughest bracket in our Region,” said Crosby. “He fell in his first match and had to beat a State placer to qualify for State. He showed a lot of heart and determination.”

Langbehn goes into State as sixth seed. His record sits at 31-8 entering State. He will face off against West Central’s Gabe Gebhard (26-10) to begin State. Ramsey goes in as a tenth seed. Ramsey, who brings a 28-21 record, will face off against Tea Area’s Jackson Tschetter (32-14) in the opening round.

In the girls’ division, two Orioles claimed their spot at State with Alexis Fischer and Stephanie Halouska claiming their spot.

“Alexis has been on her game all year long she competes extremely hard in practice and always come with her very best,” said Crosby. “Stephanie has been battling through some injuries this year but has shown so much growth throughout the year.”

Fischer enters State as a fourth seed. She will be wrestling at 142 pounds and bring a 24-8 record to State. In the opening round she is scheduled to face off against Dell Rapids’ Mikayla Hight (4-19). Halouska enters as an eighth seed and will be wrestling at 170 pounds. Halouska brings a 6-10 record to State. She is scheduled to face off against Katrina Gibson (19-19) of Aberdeen Central.

“I am excited to see these four compete on Thursday and Friday,” said Crosby.
