The Lennox City Council met Tuesday, May 26. Mayor Danny Fergen and council members heard agenda items including amendment of the municipal ordinance and overtime policies for the police department.

The City of Lennox is considering an amendment to Chapter 4 of the Municipal Ordinance.

“The changes that we discussed at the May 11 meeting are reflected in the amended ordinance so this will be a motion to approve the first reading,” City Administrator, Nate Vander Plaats said.

Mayor Fergen asked for discussion from council.

“I think this cleans it up more and makes it easier for people, especially the food vendors,” Mayor Danny Fergen said.

“I think it gets at the whole purpose of having a peddlers permit, which is door to door business,” Vander Plaats continued.

Motion was made to approve by Lauren VanDriel, seconded by Rob Peterson, motion carried.

Lennox Police Chief, Will Ericksen requested the approval of a minor addition to the City’s current overtime policy as it relates to the Police Department’s participation in the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety grant program.

“There are no significant changes to this. We are currently already doing everything that we need to do for this grant. When we were at the Chief’s convention, Sergeant Lee got the opportunity to sit down with our representative from the state. During the discussion, part of our policy did not reflect the verbiage that they would like to see, so everything that he had suggest in his memo, that is what I’m placing in front of you,” Ericksen said.

A motion was made to amend personnel policies as presented by Bill Daugherty, seconded by VanDriel, motion carried.
