Booker, McVey lead Orioles at State A Cross Country Meet

The Lennox High School cross country teams capped off a strong season with impressive performances at the 2025 SDHSAA Class A State Cross Country Meet, held Saturday, Oct. 25, at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.
The Oriole girls’ team earned a fifth-place finish, while the boys’ team placed sixth overall against a competitive statewide field. Both the LHS boys’ and girls’ squad were led by a 15th place finish, with Adie McVey placing 15th for the girls and Isaak Booker placing 15th for the boys.
McVey, who led the way for the LHS girls, finished in 15th with her time of 19:26.60.
Eighth grader Sophia Johnson followed in 33rd place with a time of 20:35.08, and freshman Kamille Schmidt crossed in 49th with a 20:49.92 finish. Freshman Lucy Carlson was close behind, placing 55th in 20:56.95, and eighth grader Kensi Holland recorded a new personal record, finishing 95th with a time of 22:04.34. Freshman Allison Loewe rounded out the team effort in 103rd at 22:46.15.
Ellie Maddox of Sioux Falls Christian won the girls’ individual title with a time of 17:32.60. Winning the team title was Sioux Falls Christian. West Central took second, Chamberlain third, and Hill City fourth.
On the boys’ side, Booker led the Orioles with a strong 15th place finish, clocking a time of 17:07.88 among the State’s best.
Senior Cloy McVey was next in 28th at 17:27.54, followed by sophomore Leo Aesoph (40th, 17:39.33) and Landon Strasser (44th, 17:44.30). Sophomore Jackson Schmidt placed 96th in 19:12.46, while freshman Charley Bittner finished 123rd with a time of 20:52.59.
Winning the boys individual title was Hill City’s Tate Grabow who finished with a time of 15:42.86. Sioux Falls Christian won the team title, with Hill City taking second, Custer third, Cheyenne Eagle Butte fourth, and Belle Fourche fifth.
