The Lennox School District Board of Education held a Special Meeting on Monday, Sept. 23.
After opening it up for comments from the public and hearing none the board made a motion to move into executive session at 6:03 p.m. citing SDCL 1-25-2 (1, 3, and 4).
The board returned from executive session at 7:06 p.m.
Superintendent Brian Field discussed the break down of Superintendent duties among the administrators for the 24-25 school year, noting each administrator would receive extra compensation for their extra duties.
The following is the breakdown of the proposed duties:
Angela Arlt’s duties to include with a suggested stipend of $19,000:
• Social Media/Webpage Postings—Live Feed and Twitter (X) with the help of Chelsey McManaman, Administrative Assistant
• School Board Meeting Agenda Preparation and Amplification for the Board
• Approve Classified Staff New Hires and Resignations
• Communication with Board Members and Meeting with Board Committees—Long Range Planning, Policy Review, Finance, and Negotiations
• KSB School Law Policy Updates with the help of Chelsey
• Certified Staff, Classified Staff, Admin Team, and Director Spring Negotiations for 2025-2026
• Budget Preparation for 2025-2026 Fiscal Year
• Web Link approvals for Admin Team Absences and Staff Absences previously approved by the Superintendent
• Teacher of the Year and Classified Staff of the Year with the help of Chelsey
• Supervise the Directors
Laura Welch’s duties to include with a suggested stipend of $16,000:
• Admin Team Meeting Agenda Preparation
• Approve or Deny Open Enrollments
• SD DOE Updates and Superintendent Webinars
• SASD Updates/Surveys
• ASBSD Updates
• Area II Superintendent Meetings
• Superintendent Legislative Day in Pierre
Chad Allison’s duties to include with a suggested stipend of $16,000:
• Attending Construction Meetings every two weeks on Tuesday mornings and communicate monthly at Board meetings on progress of addition
• Review RFP’s and Change Orders for LHS Addition for Board Approval
• Communication with the Parents and Community—Lennox Citizens Academy
Darin Eich’s duties to include with a suggested stipend of $16,000:
• Department of Education Correspondence
• School District Report Card 2023-2024—Summary for Board in November
• District Strategic Plan Revisions (2024-2029) for Board Consideration
• Member of the Admin Team Weather Committee - Closeline for Inclement Weather
Amanda Kruse;s duties to include with a suggested stipend of $11,000:
• Alternate - Area II Superintendent Meetings in Sioux Falls
• Large School Group Meetings—via Zoom and October 16-17 Meeting in Oacoma
• Job Fairs/Career Fairs in the Spring 2025—Recruiting New Teachers.
• School Calendar Preparation for 2025-2026
• Member of the Admin Team Weather Committee - Closeline for Inclement Weather
Cody Lutes’ duties to include with a suggested stipend of $11,000
• Backup to Sign Custodial Account Checks
• Monthly Internal Controls to Maintain Segregation of Duties—Bank Reconciliation, Bank Statements, New Vendor, New Employee, and Credit Card Invoices
• Member of the Admin Team Weather Committee - Closeline for Inclement Weather
• Emergency Notifications/Announcements to Parents— Infinite Campus
Becky Kuyper’s duties to include with a suggested stipend of - $5,000
• Member of the Admin Team Weather Committee - Closeline for Inclement Weather
• Additional Duties as Assigned per Admin Team
Admin Team as a whole duties:
• Emergency Manual/Crisis Procedures
• Complaint Procedure Policy and Chain of Command
• The Superintendent’s position in the Chain of Command will be filled by the other members of the Admin Team that are not in question
• Contacting, Emailing, and Meeting with State Legislators
• Superintendent Advisory Committee – Admin Team Individual Meetings
• Communication with the Media
The Business Office will handle day to day communications.
“Lennox is very fortunate to have an outstanding administration team,” said Field. “They are a cohesive unit and will serve the District very well for the next nine months.”
Board president Scott Sandal thanked the admin team for stepping up.
The board approved the administrative plan and additional stipends to administrators as presented.
Also discussed was the school district superintendent search for the 25-26 school year.
Field presented a packet from Tom Oster of Dakota Education Consulting.
Field explained that Dakota Education Consulting would charge $9,995 for their services with additional fees possibly comping from mileage, printing or shipping.
They will meet with the board in November to get the process going and start interviews in January. It was noted that the board had used their services previously in the hiring of Kirk Easton.
The board approved the contract for services with Dakota Education Consulting.
