Melissa Bauder has been named the 2025-2026 Lennox School District Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made on Wednesday, Feb. 25, during an all-staff meeting at the Performing Arts Center.

Superintendent Mr. Adam Shaw presented the award, surprising Bauder in front of her colleagues and recognizing the exceptional dedication she brings to her classroom each day. Eight educators were nominated for this year’s honor and were asked to stand and be recognized by their fellow staff members. Those nominated included: Melissa Bauder, Bailey Carlson, Mike Fodness, Brooke Halouska, Stephanie Henry, Stacy Lund, Dustin McClouth, and Chris Sattler.

Each nominee was applauded for their commitment to students and their contributions to the district.

Shaw shared excerpts from Bauder’s nomination, in which she was described as an educator who “consistently demonstrates a commitment to growth, reflection, and innovation,” and who “embraces opportunities with professionalism, care, and a willingness to learn alongside their students to ensure success.”

Bauder was praised for being confident, setting clear expectations, and treating students with respect and dignity. Her classroom was described as calm, organized, and intentional — a place where students feel safe, supported, and challenged, allowing them to grow both academically and emotionally.

Bauder was also recognized for building strong relationships with families and students alike, making learning a meaningful and joyful experience.

Her nomination also stated, “This educator has made an extraordinary impact on our child in a very short amount of time. The confidence, joy, and love of learning our child carries with them every day is a direct reflection of the heart, dedication, and love that Mrs. Bauder pours into her students — making her not just an exceptional teacher, but one who truly changes lives.”

Bauder currently teaches kindergarten at Lennox Elementary.
