A clean start: Troy Styke turns years of experience into a growing business

For Troy Styke, owner of Crystal Clean Services, what started as a learning experience quickly turned into a lasting career.

“I’ve been on my own for going on two years,” Styke said. “I owe it all to my wife’s uncle who got me into carpet cleaning many years ago. It’s a right of passage when you get used as cheap labor and I got hooked soon after. I have been cleaning and restoring for 11 years.”

After more than a decade working in cleaning and restoration, Styke launched Crystal Clean Services with a focus on quality work and long-term customer relationships.

Crystal Clean Services offers a wide range of services including carpet cleaning, window cleaning, tile and upholstery cleaning, as well as gutter cleaning and gutter guard installation. While carpet and window cleaning remain his most popular offerings, Styke continues to expand his expertise.

What sets his business apart is his hands-on approach.

“I am an owner/operator. This is my business so I don’t need a one time customer, I need one for a life time so my kids have something they can take over. In addition, through my years in restoration I’ve learned many ways to clean everything,” Styke said.

As a sole owner and operator, Styke handles the day-to-day work himself, with occasional help from his wife and children. “I’m it, owner/operator,” he said.

Like many small business owners, Styke said one of his biggest challenges has been building a customer base. 

Looking ahead, Crystal Clean Services is preparing to introduce a new process for cleaning hard surface flooring and is planning an expansion into refinishing wood floors — continuing to grow while maintaining the personalized service customers have come to expect.

Beyond the work itself, Styke values the sense of community Lennox provides. 

“The small town feeling,” said Style. “People that care about the town.”
