Lennox’s Old Fashioned 4th packed with events


Who’s ready for a celebration? The Lennox Commercial Club has once again planned a full line-up of events for the 36th Annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July in Lennox.

Things begin on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 with a cruise night, burnout contest and street dance featuring the Johnny Holm Band. Cruise night and the burn out contest are free of charge. There is a fee for the Street Dance; tickets are available at Cenex Total Stop, Sunshine, Ace Hardware, and Lewis Drug in Lennox; cost is $7 in advance and $10 at the gate. The full day of activities will be on Thursday, July 4th.

Things will get started early with the Firecracker Road Race at 8:00 a.m. Races include 1 and 2 mile and 5K, 10K. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at Lennox High School; race begins at 8 a.m.; Pre-registration: $25 for both 5K and 10K races; https://runsignup.com/Race/SD/Lennox/LennoxFirecracker. For the 1 and 2 mile, $10 pre-registration at the city office and $15 the day of the race. The race is sponsored by the Lennox Lions Club

The 4th of July Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Register at the Sinning Sports Complex on the corner of HWY 17 & HWY 44 (Sinning Sports Complex). The parade route for 2019 is shown at right in red. The route is: North on Main St., East on 1st, South on Cherry, East on 6th and the parade will end at 6th and Hwy 17 (Catholic Church).

As a reminder, there is no parking on Main Street from Hwy 44 to 4th Ave. and the parade route on First Ave. and Cherry Street.

​Also on Thursday there will be live music in the Park following the parade until 4 p.m. and the Arts in the Park will take place from 12 to 5 p.m. Craft and food vendors are located at Westerman Park following the parade.

New this year will be a Little Miss Lennox Pageant that will take place at the park at noon Thursday. For details on registration see the article on page 7.

The Lennox Area Museum located near the corner of Main Street and 3rd Avenue will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., although will be closed during the parade. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

There will be a Kiddie Tractor Pull, 1 p.m. near Westerman Park.

The Lennox ​Car Show will take place at the old football field. The show features 31 classes for Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles and Tractors, see more information on page 7.

The evening will wrap up with the Lennox Municipal Band concert at the bandshell at 8 p.m.

A spectacular fireworks show beginning at dusk will follow. July 4th Fireworks will be shot off from the High School Parking Lot.

The annual Sunday events following the 4th will take place on July 7th. The traditional Sunday worship takes place at the Lennox High School at 10:30 a.m. A free-will offering meal will follow.

Sunday, July 7th will be the Lennox Volunteer Fire Dept. Water Fight at 1:30 p.m. Spectators are welcome; the event is held at the Fire Station, 206 S. Juniper St., Lennox.
