Orioles split matches with Mount Vernon Plankinton, West Central
The Lennox High School volleyball team split a pair of matches last week, defeating Mount Vernon Plankinton in straight sets before falling to West Central in a five-set battle.
Lennox opened the week on Tuesday, Sept. 22, with a 3-0 victory over Mount Vernon Plankinton, winning 25-11, 25-11 and 25-23.
Rylee Hedin led the Orioles with 11 kills, while Libby Kranz added 10 kills. Kranz also recorded 10 digs and finished with a 2.3 serve-receive rating out of 3.0.
Catie Sherard led Lennox with 17 set assists, followed by Alivia Martz with 14. Martz and Mallorie Bittner each recorded three aces.
Addy Stucky led the Orioles with 18 digs, while Bittner had a team-high six blocks. Sydney Johnson added three blocks.
Lennox then faced West Central on Thursday, Sept. 24, falling 3-2 in a back-and-forth match. The Orioles won the second and fourth sets but dropped the match 23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 26-24 and 9-15.
Kranz led the Lennox attack with 20 kills, while Bittner added 15 kills. Bittner also recorded four aces and seven blocks, while Kranz added three aces.
Sherard finished with 29 set assists and Martz added 16 assists. Stucky led the defensive effort with 20 digs, followed by Kranz with 16. Bittner recorded seven blocks, while Maren Juffer added five. Stucky and Kranz each finished with a 1.7 serve-receive rating.
On Thursday, Oct. 1 Lennox will host Dell Rapids and on Tuesday, Oct. 6 the Orioles play host to Pierre.
