On Tuesday, Feb. 28 the Lennox High School boys’ basketball team began their post-season with a match-up against Vermillion. After leading by ten early on, the shots stop falling for the Orioles. Lennox was able to hang on to a 23-22 halftime lead but after being outscored 15-13 in the third and 14-11 in the fourth, the Orioles’ season came to end with a 51-47 loss to the Tanagers.
“Losing in the first round of regions was a difficult way to end our season. It was a night where we simply couldn’t get our offense going. It was our lowest scoring game of the season, we shot 25% from two range, and 55% from the free throw line,” said LHS head coach Chris Buckmiller. “All of that is tough to digest. My hope is that this experience will light a fire under us and use it as motivation. Overall, I’m extremely proud of our guys and how hard they worked during this season. There is much to be proud of and the relationships we’ve built will extend beyond the season.”
Against Vermillion, Porter Ihnen finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Conner Eich also finished in double digits, scoring 12 points, hitting four of seven threes in the game. He also had four rebounds and one steal. Jaxon Plank finished with eight points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Braxton Musser had six points, four rebounds, and one steal. Talan Diercks finished with five points, five rebounds, and three assists. Tate Gerdes had two points, two assists, and two steals.
The team will say goodbye to seniors Jaxon Plank, Braeden Wulf, Andrew Daugherty, Conner Eich, and manager Jeffrey Klock.
