Lennox Memorial Day Service to be held May 25

The American Legion Brethorst-Burma Post No. 174 will host the 2026 Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 25, at 7 p.m. at the Lennox American Legion Hall.
The annual service will honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States and will feature patriotic music, student presentations and the presentation of the Lennox American Legion Awards.
The evening will begin with the Presentation of Colors by Brethorst-Burma Post No. 174, followed by the National Anthem performed by the Lennox Municipal Band under the direction of Byron Youngquist. Hunter Ihnen will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and the post chaplain will deliver the invocation.
Students Olivia Homan and Lily Kezar will present “In Flanders Field” and the response. Grayden Veurink will recite the Gettysburg Address, and the band and audience will join together in singing “God Bless America.”
During the program, representatives of the American Legion will present the Lennox American Legion Awards.
Citizenship Awards will be presented to sophomores Lily Kezar and Hunter Ihnen; freshmen Sullivan Weeldreyer and Stella Meyer; and eighth-grade students Austin Forrest and Emily Reiser.
Scholarship Awards will be presented to sophomores Olivia Homan and Grayden Veurink; freshmen Landon Strasser and Harper Lee; and eighth-grade students Sophie Wood and Chase Hedin.
The Lennox Municipal Band will perform an additional musical selection before the Memorial Day Address, which will be delivered by this year by Mr. Adam Shaw, Lennox School District Superintendent.
The service will also include 30 seconds of silence in honor of fallen comrades, followed by Taps, the benediction by the post chaplain, and the Retirement of Colors. The post commander will conclude the evening with announcements, and the band will perform closing selections.
