Sioux Steel plans to move shipyard to Lennox

Sioux Steel will move its shipping yard to Lennox before the end of the year.

Sioux Steel Company is relocating its Sioux Falls shipping yard to the Lennox Industrial Park. This is a result of the pending redevelopment of Sioux Steel’s site in downtown Sioux Falls. The location will be between 221 11th St. E (SEAMS) and 216 Oriole E (Fusion) in Lennox.

Plans call for a 3-acre gravel lot that will eventually house a large tension membrane structure. The site will be used for the staging and shipping of products manufactured by Sioux Steel. Timeline for construction is late summer to early fall of 2019.

Hugh Dodson, Sioux Steel Company corporate development director, said they are currently taking soil samples at the Lennox site. They will be moving raw materials and finished goods to Lennox by the end of the year.

Once soil samples are done, they will go out for bids.

“Hopefully we’ll have all that completed by the end of July. Then construction can begin in August or September,” he said.

Moving the shipping yard to Lennox is a good move, he said.

“It’s good that we have a campus there already. We’ve got three buildings there right now that we do manufacturing out of,” he said.
