Calling all bus drivers: Drivers needed for 2019-20 school year

With director of transportation Russ Nelson moving into a new role, the Lennox School District will need to fill at least one opening before the next school year starts.

Nelson will move into the role of director of transportation and buildings and grounds so he will not have time to drive one of the district’s eight bus routes.

With the school’s eight regular bus routes, various van routes and multiple activities going on all the time, the district is always in need of additional drivers. Nelson notes that several teachers and a couple of farmers work as fill-in drivers.

Some may be wondering what it takes to become a bus driver.

“To drive bus you have to get your Class B CDL with a passenger and school bus endorsement,” Nelson said.

While it will cost a person to earn their CDL and a physical, the school district reimburses them for that.

Regular route bus drivers get paid at least four hours a day.
