Ownership of Lennox Assisted Living returns to Sheldon and Julie Schelling

Sheldon and Julie Schelling are back at the helm of the Lennox Assisted and Independent Living Facility, located at 220 S Lincoln Street, Lennox. Familiar names in the community, the Schellings purchased the facility, then known as Hilda’s Heritage Home in Lennox in September 2007. They owned and operated the 28 bed facility until April 2015 when they leased the facility to Welcov. At that time, Sheldon had been commuting back and forth to Kansas City to run their three Home Instead Senior Care franchises which they purchased in 2012. When Welcov took over operations, they moved to Kansas City and Julie started working in the Home Instead business.

Julie said, “Welcov had leased the facility from us; it was on a three year lease with a guaranteed purchase during the lease. When they were unable to get funding for the purchase at the end of the three years the lease was extended for an additional two years. However, five months into the two year extension they broke the agreement, which is why we took back over on Oct. 1 of this year.”

The couple has always had a passion for caring for seniors.

“We find joy when we are able to help a senior make a transition, or supply help for a senior who is in need,” Julie said, “Everything we do we do with the purpose of keeping the seniors we care for as Independent as possible while providing the care they need.”

In their Lennox Assisted and Independent Living Facility they rely on Executive Director, Sherri Bachtell. Sherri has worked at the facility since 2011.

The Schellings are appreciative of her experience.

Julie said, “The biggest challenge in our business is finding and retaining caring and competent staff who understand the nature of 24/7 work with seniors.”

Currently, Lennox Assisted and Independent Living is licensed by the state of SD for Assisted living for 42 beds for these services: medication administration, cognitively impaired
