Lennox swimming pool bond vote just weeks away

In just over two weeks Lennox voters will once again head to the polls to vote on whether or not to construct a new swimming pool in the community. The vote will take place on Tuesday, October 2nd with voting open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church on E. Second Ave., Lennox.

Citizens can learn more next Monday, Sept. 17th at the Lennox Pool Project Public Meeting to be held at 7 p.m. at the Lennox Intermediate Cafetorium. The pool committee will also be having an information table the week of Homecoming at the home volleyball game and the football game.

The vote is for a $1.7 million swimming pool, as bid by Carrothers Construction Company of Paola, Kansas. The project is over $1 million lower than the previous proposed pool, which went to a vote in 2017 and failed.

In response to the failed vote the City of Lennox conducted a survey and based the new swimming pool project costs on those responses. Several hundred citizens responded to the survey — 67% of survey respondents answered in favor of supporting a bond amount of $100.00/$100,000 assessed property value, annually.

The October 2nd Special Bond Vote is for nearly that at $117/$100,000 assessed property value, annually. For example a home valued at $124,800 (the average Lennox home assessed value) would incur approximately an extra $146 in property taxes per year, or $12.17 per month.

If the vote passes October 2nd, the new pool will be open late summer 2019.
