Since 1981 Orville Wiebers has been working for the citizens of Lennox, SD. It was at that time that he began serving as a councilman, which he did for the next 22 years. Following that impressive time spent serving the public, he took on the role as Mayor and served as Lennox Mayor from 2003-2018.
Wiebers grew up in Lennox, about eight miles south of town. He met his wife Corliss at Lennox High School. He attended Airline School in Minneapolis, Minnesota and started working in Chicago in 1967.
“We knew we wanted to come back here and raise our family,” Wiebers said.
In 1974 they had that opportunity and moved to Lennox. They raised their three daughters here, two of whom have decided to raise their own families here, their oldest lives in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Family is an important part of Wiebers’ life; he says his wife Corliss made his public service possible.
“Corliss was so good,” he said, “There would be messages every day—good, bad or in-different.”
Over his years in city government he’s seen good times and bad. He said there were more peaks than valleys though.
