Last week D&D Small Engine Repair broke ground at their new location. The site for the new building is located just north of Goeman Auction Pavilion on Highway 17.
The local small engine repair and well-known lawn mower dealer opened their doors in Lennox on Mar. 30, 2009. Since that time the father and son team of Randy Dump and Brock Dump have grown the business into an award winning dealership, bringing home the Diamond Dealer award for the second year in a row. It was just last week that the Dumps accepted the award at a recent convention held in Louisville, KY.
Once they returned from the convention Randy was back at the site of the new building, ready to oversee the next step in the construction process.
He said D&D is expanding from their current 2,500 square foot building to a 6,500 square foot space that will include a big showroom, parts area and service center. Randy said that with the three acres of land they will have the space for a nice concrete driveway and parking lot and a fenced in grass space in the back to test drive mowers.
Randy anticipates that D&D will have to add employees; currently the business employs five.
They are planning to add several new lines — Simplicity lawn tractors and snow blowers, as well as Echo lawn equipment. This will be in addition to the already impressive line-up of brands they carry like Hustler, Toro, DR Power, DOLMAR, Briggs and Stratton and more.
Randy anticipates they will stock 140 mowers at the new store. He hopes to have the new building ready for customers by the end of February.
Randy said, “We just outgrew where were.”
The location right on Highway 17 may aid in the visibility of walk-in business as well.
“It’s going to be a state of the art facility,” Randy said, “It’s a big investment for Lennox.”
Randy anticipates the building will cost $400,000 to $500,000 once complete.
D&D Small Engine Repair has also recently completed a computer system upgrade that tracks the parts that come in and automatically sends an email or text to the customer when it becomes available. The online parts ordering has become an important part of their business.
Currently, D&D Small Engine Repair is open at 46500 278th St. in Lennox (on the west end of Boynton Ave.). They can be reached at 605-647-2995 or found online at www.dndsmallenginesales.com.
