With both the varsity girls and boys taking second at the Region 3A cross country meet, the Lennox High School cross country qualified all six of the varsity girl runners and all six of the varsity boy runners for the 2017 State A Tournament to be held this Saturday, Oct. 21 in Rapid City.
The Region 3A meet was held last Thursday, Oct. 12 in Beresford with the top runners fighting for a spot at the State Meet.
The varsity girls took to the course first and with three runners in the top ten of the 5K race, the LHS girls claimed second place honors. The LHS girls were led by seventh grader Ali Bainbridge. Bainbridge crossed the finish line in 19:58.59 to capture third place at the Meet. Eighth grader Alicia Ruud took eighth place with a time of 21:27.07 and seventh grader Emily Plucker captured ninth with a time of 21:37.91. Also competing for Lennox and qualifying for State were ninth grader Katelyn Plucker who took 24th with a time of 23:02.04; sophomore Isabel Ihnen who finished 25th with a time of 23:02.42; and seventh grader Sierra Smidt who took 35th with a time of 24:27.59.
Lennox finished with a team total of 43. Beresford won the Region title with a team total of 33. Ethan/Parkston took third with a 47. The top three teams qualify for State along with the top 20 runners. Beresford’s Cait Savey won individual honors with a time of 19:18.54.
