Lennox Council to sell city wells to SLRW

During Monday night’s city council meeting City Administrator Amanda Anglin provided a City of Lennox Well Presentation. She presented three options to the council regarding the City of Lennox Water Wells. She explained that now the City of Lennox is sourcing 100% of its water from Lewis and Clark Rural Water System. Options included keeping the wells and the water plant operational; keeping the wells but capping them; and selling the wells to South Lincoln Rural Water.

After discussion, the council agreed to look at the most financially beneficial option which was selling the wells to SLRW. The option included having an emergency water source connection and plan in place with SLRW. The council moved to pursue the sale of the wells for $125,000, with two no votes from Chad Wulf and Greg Poppenga.

Several visitors addressed the council at Monday night’s meeting. The first was a citizen concerned about the increase in water and sewer rates.

Diane Martin said, “I’ve lived here for 24 years, and you folks have abruptly decided to change the sewer and water rates and it has an unequal impact on the older folks and single occupancies.”

Her concern was that the bulk of dollars are coming from the small households. She also asked the council why people in the community were not following the sump pump ordinance and said the $500 a month charge seemed very punitive in a small town.
