
On Saturday, Jan. 28 the Lennox High School girls’ basketball team competed in the DakXII Conference Classic in Dell Rapids.
Lennox entered the tournament as the top seed and defeated second seeded Dakota Valley, 66-56, to win the DakXII Championship.
Three Orioles were in double figures on the night, Madysen Vlastuin finished the night with 23, Jordan Kruse 18 and Riley Peters 13. Rianna Fillipi provided eight points, Abbie Strasser three and Courtney Weeldreyer added one.
Kruse enjoyed a double-double on the night, pulling down ten rebounds to go with her 18 points. R. Fillipi had seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Strasser and Vlastuin each had six rebounds. Vlastuin also had two steals and one assist. Strasser had one steal in the game. Peters pulled down four rebounds, had one assist and one steal.
The Orioles shot just over 39 percent in the game. Dakota Valley finished the night shooting nearly 33 percent in the game.
Other results at the DakXII Conference Tournament were Dell Rapids defeating West
Central, 53-45 for third place; Vermillion defeating Madison 56-37 for fifth place; Elk Point Jefferson defeating Tri-Valley 48-36 for seventh place; Sioux Falls Christian defeating Tea Area, 61-52 for ninth place and Beresford defeating Canton, 51-20 for 11th place.
Prior to the DaxXII Championship win, the LHS girls hosted Beresford on Thursday, Jan. 26 and used a commanding first half where they led 40-18 to get the 65-27 victory.
Peters had a hot hand on the night, finishing with 20 points. She hit three of five from downtown and went seven of ten from the field. Vlastuin finished the night with 13 points, Weeldreyer had 12 points, Kruse eight, Fillipi seven, Megan Hinker three, and Strasser two.
Weeldreyer led the team in rebounds with five, Fillipi and Strasser had four each, Vlastuin three, and Hinker two. Vlastuin had four assists and Fillipi three. Fillipi lead the team in steals with seven on the night.
The Orioles shot over 52 percent in the win while Beresford was held to just 25 percent.
The Orioles will travel to Elk Point Jefferson on Thursday, Feb. 2 and will host Canton on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
