Asphalt paving to begin Sept. 6 on Highway 17 project

The reconstruction of Highway 17 through Lennox has been on-going since April. The underground and grading work have been completed, along with the majority of concrete work, which will be complete by the end of next week, according to the contractor.

Ryan Kerkvliet of Black Top Paving said, “Thank you very much for your patience thus far with the Hwy. 17 project. I know the reconstruction of Hwy. 17 has been an inconvenience for the city of Lennox.”

The project is nearing completion though, and the asphalt paving operations will begin next week, September 6th. Kerkvliet said he anticipates asphalt paving will take 10 days to complete. The asphalt paving is a very big part of the project, and will require a lot of paving equipment and trucks delivering asphalt to the job site. During the paving, there will be times when intersections won’t be accessible to the traveling public.

Kerkvliet encourages residents to pay special attention to traffic control signs and use caution when having to access Hwy. 17, as the safety for crews and the traveling public is their number one concern on the project.

Kerkvliet said, “We will do everything we can do to accommodate anyone needing to access Hwy. 17 during the paving operations, but we do ask that if alternate routes are possible please consider them during the paving operations. Everyone has been great and we look forward to providing a new and improved Hwy. 17.”

The project has an Oct. 1, 2016 completion date.
