Providing a healing touch

The healing touch of massage can make a difference in people’s lives, and that is what motivates Kaye Donnelly. Donnelly is the owner and operator of Main Street Massage. Her business is located in Suite 204 of the First Financial Building at 106 S. Main St., Lennox. She has been renting this second floor space since March 2015 when her business opened.

Donnelly said, “I wanted to go someplace that didn’t have a massage therapist, and the space was perfect. Lennox is an easy travel from Sioux Falls.”

Donnelly herself is from Canton, but she said some of her clients are from Sioux Falls. Donnelly runs Main Street Massage part time right now, while maintaining her position at Sanford Health in Luverne, MN as a massage therapist in hospice care and rehab.

Donnelly is a 2009 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls and the Cortiva Institute of Massage in Tucson, AZ. She offers massage therapy, Swedish and deep tissue. She is certified in oncology massage so she can work with cancer patients, she also offers pregnancy massage, aromatherapy therapeutic massage and infant massage.

She said, “Giving people pain and stress relief is rewarding. Hands on healing is pretty awesome.”

The massage industry is changing she said.

“It used to be looked at as a treat, now people are coming for therapy issues. It’s a regular monthly routine.”

She said doctors are referring patients for massage therapy now and hospitals are using aromatherapy after surgery in hospitals. She hopes someday that medical insurance will cover massage. She said, “I’ve seen the benefits of massage first hand. If it’s incorporated into their health regiment, it’s a more homeopathic method.”

Some of the examples she gave were clients being able to quit their fibromyalgia medicine, people being able to reduce their anti-anxiety medication, and reduction of stress levels.

She said, “If people stick with it, you see increases in movement and better pain management.”

Donnelly offers appointments at Main Street Massage Fridays and Saturdays. She can also schedule Tuesday and Thursday by appointment. She tries to remain flexible for her clients. She said, “I try to do what I can for weekday clients and get with them on their individual needs.”

She said for clients who haven’t been to her before, or haven’t had a massage at all, she walks them through the process. She said, “Massage doesn’t have to be painful to be beneficial. Open communication is the best. It’s whatever they are comfortable with.”

Donnelly has been doing massage for six years this June, she hopes to be able to offer more hours in Lennox at Main Street Massage. She also continues her training, learning new techniques all the time.

To contact Main Street Massage call 484-1961 or email mainstreet_massage@yahoo.com. She said, “I want people in Lennox to know where I am and give me call.”
