The 38th Annual Show Choir Talent Night was held on Tuesday, March 22nd in the high school cafetorium. The audience selected the People’s Choice Awards for the evening. Three places were given. Mason Temme, playing the piano, won 1st place. He was playing a medley that he created of pop hits after listening to them on Youtube. Mason is in the 7th grade at LWC Junior High. Second place went to Jenna Duncan singing “All This Time” by Britt Nicole. Jenna is in the third grade at Worthing Elementary. The third place winners were Kyah Jackson and Courtney Sandal. They performed a selection called “Lean On Me” with singing, acrobatics and a pogo stick. Kyah and Courtney are in the 5th grade at LWC Intemediate.
The students performing in the program were: Clara Stucky, Sawyer Hansen, Kira Defries, Lizzy Rieck, Katelynn Oyen, Addy Oyen, Jack Aasheim, Lilly Meyer, Kyah Jackson, Courtney Sandal, Natalie Andernacht, Trevor Mulholland, Jenna Duncan, Emersen Lee, Noah Saylor, Zoe DeVries, Zoe Top, Annika Kollis, Krimzon Summers, Rayann Hoppe, Halie Spears, Mason Temme, Hannah Sayler, Alec Waldhalm, Ethan Grote, Andrew Paulson and Abby Beach.
The Show Choir is directed by Cheryl Jacobson, 5-12 Vocal Music instructor with Lennox School District. This will be Jacobson’s last talent show as she is retiring at the end of the school year.
Jacobson has been a part of the Lennox School District since 1985. Jacobson said at the time she was hired to teach kindergarten through twelfth grade vocal music. Throughout her 31 years in the district, the grade levels she has taught has varied. Right now, she said there are probably four hundred students that she teaches in vocal. Jacobson also directs Contest, All State Chorus, and Show Choir.
She said, “When I started it was the seventh annual talent show.”
Although Jacobson is retiring she said she will likely substitute teach in the area. She said, “That gives me flexibility and I can help with my granddaughter.”
