Lennox School Board discusses parking lot east of Lennox Elementary building

The Lennox School District Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.

Work agreements were approved for the following: Christine Sayler and Alyssa Becker as part-time preschool aides, Pete Albers as van driver and Lee Storo as custodian. The Board approved Julie Sather’s retirement effective at the end of the 2015-16 school term. In a letter read, she was quoted as saying, “After 35 years in teaching, I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family.”

The second reading and approval of both the Affordable Care Act policy and the school volunteers policy were approved unanimously. The Audit Report from Quam & Berlin for fiscal year 2015 was approved. The Board approved the 2017 membership in Teachwell Solutions, formerly East Dakota Education Cooperative.

The election date of April 12, 2016 was approved. Two seats on the board will be open as their terms have expired, Merris Miller and Nancy Nelson. Both are three year terms. Circulation of nominating petitions may begin on January 29, 2016 and petitions may be filed in the office of the business manager no later than the Feb. 26, 2016.

Under discussion items was the curb and gutter and parking lot design from Stockwell Engineering. The Board was given a look at the plans drawn up by the engineering firm. Easton explained some of the options, noting that he sees a need for more bike racks at the Intermediate School and low maintenance landscaping.

Discussion on the parking lot east of the elementary school included options such as reducing the size of the lot, resurfacing all, or a portion. Easton said the drainage will be addressed. Easton said the School District has $300,000 budgeted for these projects and will work with the engineers to get the plans to fit within those confines.

Easton is hoping the projects will be able to be bid out no later than the end of April.
