Country Music Hall of Fame donates instruments to honor Jon Richter’s love of music

The family of Jon Richter was at Lennox Elementary School on Tuesday morning as South Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame presented musical instruments to the Lennox Elementary music program in honor of Jon Richter.

On March 8, a tribute to Jon was held at the newly established SD Country Music Opry House and Museum, located at the corner of 2nd and Main in Lennox. Wini Iverson, board chairman of the SD Country Music Hall of Fame, said the event was held to honor Jon’s love of country music. Jon, who died Thursday, Feb. 12 as a result of injuries sustained from a violent attack at his work place in Lennox, was a talented singer and musician and played with area bands at many local events.

To pass on his love of music, the SD Country Music Hall of Fame, purchased a ukulele, a guitar, recorders, tambourines, and musical rhythm sets for the Lennox music program. On Tuesday, Iverson and Richard Danielson, who was inducted into the SD Country Music Hall of Fame last year, presented the instruments to Lennox Elementary music teacher Joy Lang as she taught a Lennox fourth grade class.
