In their first state appearance since 2009, the Lennox High School boys’ basketball team brought home seventh place honors.
The Orioles opened the State Tournament on Thursday, Mar. 19 against a strong Aberdeen Roncalli team. The Orioles surprised the Cavaliers with a strong showing that had them leading at the half; however, Lennox fell to eventual State Champs, 48-37, which placed them in a consolation game against Clark-Willow Lake on Friday night, Mar. 20.
The Cyclones came out fighting in a very physical game which saw Clark-Willow Lake getting the 50-42 victory.
The loss sent Lennox into the seventh and eighth place round where they faced off against Mount Vernon-Plankinton on Saturday night, Mar. 21. Lennox played strong the entire game to grab the 65-55 victory, giving them seventh place.
“We want to thank all the fans who drove five hours to ‘Move the Nest Out West’ and all our fans who supported us by catching our games on TV,” said Oriole head coach Paul McVey. “Our players are looking forward to cherishing these memories and doing whatever it takes to put ourselves in a position to compete for a championship next season.”
