An explosion at Farm Gas Cooperative in Lennox on Monday afternoon injured two employees—Arne Erickson and Kris Kuper. Both men were taken by Lennox ambulance to Sioux Falls. Erickson was then flown to the St. Paul Regional Burn Center for treatment. Kuper was transferred to the Burn Center by ambulance, said Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Harold Timmerman.
Farm Gas Manager Mitch Jensen, who was not at the scene at the time, said the men were replacing a hose on one of the trucks. He said that as the air in the hose was replaced by product, some of the gas leaked into the building where it came in contact with a heater, resulting in an explosion. Fire Chief Earl Fischer initially called Worthing and Chancellor to assist, but turned them back when the Lennox firemen were able to get the fire quickly under control. Lennox firemen are pictured above preparing to leave the scene. Jensen said the company will do whatever it can to support the two men and their families.
