After a few weeks delay due to the extreme heat, the kids’ sand volleyball league was able to get underway in Tea the last Monday in June.

The league meets every Monday night at the sand volleyball courts at Squealers in Tea. Teams are comprised of 8 through 11 year olds and 12 through 14 year olds. Each age group plays the same age group with the younger teams meeting from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and the older groups meeting from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Four courts are going at the same time, allowing for a number of teams to compete. Kids from Tea, Lennox and the surrounding areas participate.

Andrea Kuipers, co-owner of Squealers, said the league was designed to be fun for the kids as they learn new skills and meet new friends.

Parents help coach the teams and all in attendance encourage good sportsmanship.

One fifth grade participant has really enjoyed the first two Mondays of the league, stating, “I like hanging out with all my friends and getting to meet new people while working on my volleyball skills!”

The league is comprised of six weeks of play with the final week slated for August 8.

In a recent email to the participants Kuipers shared her excitement on how the league is going thus far.

“I wanted to reach out to all of you and say how much fun everyone is having with the kids’ league,” she said. “It’s great to see so many kids having fun.”
