Orioles earn wins over Centerville, Vermillion in Beresford

On Friday, Apr. 7 the Lennox High School baseball team began their 2023 season with a match-up against Centerville in Beresford.

The Orioles built a five-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Centerville to take the 7-5 victory. Centerville managed three runs in the top of the sixth, failing to comeback.

In the bottom of the second inning, Lennox scored their first run of the season to tie things up at one when a wild pitch allowed Braxton Musser to score.

Lennox pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning and four more in the bottom of the fifth.

In the fourth Corban Hanneman doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring Conner Eich.

In the fifth, Talen Eich, Hanneman, and Braedon Wulf all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Wulf was the winning pitcher for Lennox. He lasted two innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out two and walking zero. T. Eich and Sawyer Bowers entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. T. Eich recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Lennox.

Musser started the game for the Orioles. The ace went two innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out three and walking one.

Lennox tallied nine hits in the game. Hanneman and T. Eich had two hits each to lead the team. Also recording hits were Isaac Bambas, Cullen Wright, Conner Eich, Musser, and Bowers.

Lennox took on Vermillion on Monday, Apr. 10 and defeated the Tangers 4-3 in Beresford.

Vermillion scored one run in both the second and third innings before Lennox answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

In the inning, Lennox’s offense came from a walk by Braedon Wulf and an error on a ball put in play by Ashton Bach.

With the game tied at 3-all after Vermillion scored in the top of the sevneth, Lennox’s T. Eich managed to score to give the Orioles the win.

Jackson Anacker was the winning pitcher for Lennox. Anacker went one inning, allowing one run on one hit, striking out two and walking one. Bach and Isaac Bambas entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Bambas went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Lennox in hits.

Lennox was scheduled to face off against Baltic on Wednesday, Apr. 12. The team faces off against Dell Rapids on Friday, Apr. 14 and will travel to McCook Central Montrose on Saturday, Apr. 15 for a 1 p.m. game.
