The Lennox Speech and Debate team concluded its season with a third-place finish at the State tournament that was held in Harrisburg on March 4 and 5. The team was comprised of seniors Kaylee Bosma and Xavier Larson, sophomore Gunnar Geiken, freshmen Emma Kilene and Valicity VanBreisen, and 7th grader Maddix Havard. Top finishes for the team included Xavier Larson fourth in original oratory, Gunnar Geiken fourth in international extemporaneous, Kaylee Bosma fifth in informative speaking, and second in original oratory, Kaylee Bosma and Xavier Larson were quarter-finalists in public forum debate, and Gunnar Geiken is a Semi-finalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate. The team finished in a strong third-place position behind the schools of Spearfish and Sturgis.
Coach Michael Larson said, “I am very proud of all the students’ work and effort this year. We are a very young team and it was different coming back to in-person debate, but it was a wonderful year. We are really going to miss the seniors graduating, but we will hope to grow the team and have an excellent group of young students coming up.”
