Lennox Sundstrom FFA Chapter returns from Nationals

Members of the Lennox Sundstrom FFA Chapter traveled to Indianapolis, IN to compete in national career development events at the National FFA Convention. The team left on Monday, October 22, competed throughout the week and returned home on Saturday, October 27. The chapter had two teams competing; Meats Evaluation and Marketing Plan.

The Marketing Plan team of Sarah Kroeger, Brook Geiken, Naomi Reiss and alternate Madeline Loewe received a bronze award plaque. This competition tests students’ ability to effectively communicate their ideas on how to promote a business or product. The team’s proposal was based on Deep Root Gardens, a local CSA farm. Unfortunately, the team did not advance past the first round.

The Meat Evaluation team of Jack Nordmann, Kaleb Lunstra, Nick Ihnen and alternate Cooper Benning finished silver and in 26th place in the nation. This CDE is an event in which FFA members test their knowledge and skills in the meats industry. Participants must complete a general knowledge exam, complete practicums involving a meat technology, identify retail cuts, determine beef carcass quality, and place classes of wholesale meat cuts. Individually Jack Nordmann and Kaleb Lunstra received silver medals. Nick Ihnen received a bronze.
