FCC Commissioner Carr visits Good Samaritan Society

June 7, 2018

FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr toured Good Samaritan Society – Lennox on Thursday, May 31. Lennox administrator Todd Anderson led the tour, and Commissioner Carr was joined by Good Samaritan Society Vice President of Information Services Technical Services Rusty Williams and Director of Information services Tyler Northrup.

Carr’s visit to Lennox was one stop of several in the Midwest examining rural broadband access and telehealth services. Good Samaritan Society – Lennox is one of about 180 rural skilled nursing facilities across the country.

In 2017, Good Samaritan Society became eligible to participate in the Rural Health Care program through the FCC. The Rural Health Care (RHC) Program supports health care facilities in bringing world class medical care to rural areas through increased connectivity. It provides up to $400 million annually in reduced rates for broadband and telecom services.

Carr said, “In rural communities where the challenge is getting doctors and nurses out here, the need for getting broadband is on the rise.”
