Man dies in overnight house fire in rural Lennox


A house fire in the overnight hours of Monday, October 9th claimed the life of an adult male. Turner County Sheriff Byron Nogelmeier reported that a call for a house fire at 27961 463rd Avenue came in shortly after 1 a.m.

The Chancellor Fire Department, Lennox Fire Department, Lennox Area Ambulance and Parker Fire Department all responded to the call.

Sheriff Nogelmeier confirmed that there was an adult male that died in the fire in the house. The name of the deceased had not been released at press time. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was asked to assist in the investigation.

Chancellor Fire Chief Jeb Ford said the fire was able to be knocked down fairly quickly.

Lennox Fire Chief Wayne Fischer added that not much could be released because of the ongoing investigation.

According to the Turner County Plat book, the property is owned by Gary and Martha Poppenga.
